Waverly Community Church

Founded in 1872

WaverlyCommunity Church (The Free Methodist Church of the Abingtons) was Chartered in 1872 in the Borough of Waverly, Pennsylvania and at the time met in homes.  Reverend George Harvey was the first Pastor (1872-1873) who happened to be a circuit preacher.  Then in 1878 they bought the old school house on Beech Street in center of town. There they meet for 14 years.  Then in 1892 Under the leadership of Reverend W.B. Rose, he decided to purchase the vacant Presbyterian church located on the corner of Main & Carbondale roads for $700.
